Next up in our “Meet an Arcweber” series: David Whitaker, the newest addition to the Arcweb business development department. Let’s get to it…
Footloose, as a result of a pretty epic dancing repertoire.
Title and role at Arcweb?
Business development. I cultivate opportunities and relationships with current and future Arcweb customers.
What do you tell your parents you do for a living?
Swing dancing. It’s easier than getting into the nuts and bolts of software development. Plus, the movie Swingers was pretty awesome. “You’re so money, and you don’t even know it.”
Favorite city (other than Philadelphia, obviously)?
My hometown, New York City.
What’s your tech setup?
I have a Macbook Air with a secondary monitor, an iPhone and an iPad. I’m a bit of an Apple fanboy.
What’s the most memorable vacation you’ve taken?
Maui. Beautiful beaches and experiencing a sunrise on a volcano… nothing like it.
What were you doing before Arcweb?
I was doing some independent consulting helping tech startups with marketing and business development.
What are your top three favorite/most used apps on your iPhone?
What three blogs do you read religiously?
Who’s your tech idol?
Tony Hsieh at Zappos. He built an amazing business committed to great product design and even better customer service.
Opinion on wearables?
Love ‘em, but there should be more options for lazy people like me.
Favorite product you’re currently loving?
My access ID card for Arcweb HQ. (Woohoo I work here!)
What do you love about the Philly tech scene?
It’s tough, resilient and community-driven—just like the city itself.
Where and how can the Philly tech community get better?
The Philly tech community needs to work with government and the private sector to attract more capital. That’s a two way street too.
You get one superpower. What is it and why?
Telekinesis. It’s the most versatile of all superpowers. You can make yourself fly!
When you’re not Arcwebing, you’re…
I’m PSLing (Philly Startup Leaders) where I’m on the marketing team. I also spend time mentoring startups and nonprofits and coaching my son’s soccer and basketball teams.
What’s on the house speakers when you’re DJing Arcweb HQ?
Bonobo, Kings of Leon, Massive Attack, Little Dragon, Drake.
Favorite innovation of all time?
Digital music, MP3s, streaming. I’m a music buff and having almost all of the world’s music available on my phone is amazing. Shazam falls into this category too. I love finding awesome songs in movies and commercials.
In your opinion, what’s the number one reason why a business would hire Arcweb?
We are the total package: smart, humble, nimble, thoughtful, perceptive, agile, dedicate, and perpetually hungry in both the literal and metaphorical senses.
And that’s David. Give him a shout to talk product, startups, and yes, dancing.
